Saturday, May 3, 2025 our Ch8se Champion, Kandra "Kamping KayCee" Cosby and our hike lead, Restful Renee led fifteen Ch8sers, with two of them being first-timers to the peaceful magic of Issaqueena Falls and the historic Stumphouse Tunnel in Walhalla, South Carolina.

These two gems—just steps apart—offered us not only stunning views and cool, shady spaces, but also moments of laughter, sisterhood, and sweet stillness.

Issaqueena Falls, with her soft roar and cascading beauty, told her legend in whispers—about a young Creek maiden who once leapt for freedom and found her way. As we stood in her presence, many of us felt the power of her story and the peace of being surrounded by towering trees and flowing water.

Not far from the falls, we ventured into the cool, damp air of Stumphouse Tunnel and captured some amazing photos with the tunnels entrance draped behind us. There's something magical and grounding about stepping into the quiet of that tunnel—the temperature drops, the light dims to darkness, and your senses come alive. It reminded me of the depth and layers we all carry, and the strength it takes to keep going. It was such a cool and exceptional experience.

And oh—can we talk about that swing?

Tucked into a clearing near the trail, a simple, nature-made, vine swing hung in the middle of the trail. Several of us took turns floating through the air, laughing like kids, letting the moment hold us. It was pure joy. A reminder that healing doesn’t always have to be deep or heavy—it can be light, playful, and free.

As the title of the song says, "Lovely Day," it was just that! The trees were vibrant green, the earth was soft to cushion our steps and the smell of the nature was full of the sweet honeysuckle! We couldn't have asked for a better day to enjoy brown faces in green spaces!

This Ch8se was special—not because of the miles walked, but because of the connections made. The way we showed up for each other, the ease of our conversations, and the quiet understanding that nature has a way of softening all our edges.

Thank you to each of you who came out. Your energy, your presence, your spirit—it made the day unforgettable.

Until the next Ch8se,

In healing, peace, purpose, and waterfalls,

Deborah McGlawn, Founder, Ch8sing Waterfalls
